Charming West Down House, near Bradworthy in Devon, has three enchanting self-catering holiday cottages and one apartment.

Dating from the sixteenth century the manor house is off the beaten track set in 5½ acres of lovely gardens amongst beautiful rolling countryside in this peaceful and unspoilt corner of rural north Devon and Cornwall.

West Down House is close to some of the most spectacular coastline in the UK that offers breathtaking scenery, unspoilt beaches and stunning coastal path walks.

Bradworthy village, of Saxon origin, with pub, shops and garage (fuel) is just over one mile. Bude, a family seaside resort with sandy beaches, rockpools and surfing is 10 miles and the rural market town of Holsworthy is 8 miles. Clovelly the famous village and harbour quaintly nestling in steep cliffs and Hartland Abbey (location for BBC's 2008 Sense & Sensibility drama) and are both 9 miles.

Beaches, walking, cycling, watersports, swimming, golf and riding are available nearby. There are many fascinating local attractions and day trips for visitors.

Our other holiday cottage, Victorian Smithy Cottage, is at the pretty village of Abbotsham near Bideford also in North Devon.

All accommodation is non-smoking, pet-free and is maintained to a high standard and is inspected annually by our agents.

TO WEST DOWN HOUSE ONLY (SMITHY COTTAGE IS A SEPARATE COTTAGE IN THE VILLAGE OF ABBOTSHAM NEAR BIDEFORD)



FROM M5

Exit at Junction 27 and take A361 to NORTH DEVON and BARNSTAPLE. Follow for 35 miles. At first roundabout (Barnstaple) take A39 (A386) to BUDE and BIDEFORD.

To avoid Bideford go over new, high-level Torridge bridge to roundabout. Continue ahead following A39 BUDE and CAMELFORD. After 2.5 miles at next roundabout take first exit to CLOVELLY INDUSTRIAL ESTATE and immediately turn right to LITTLEHAM.

Follow road for 1.4 miles and turn right at crossroads to BUCKLAND BREWER and PARKHAM. Proceed down steep hill - at bottom should be a telephone box on your left. Turn right into "S" bend joining road from Bideford to Bradworthy. Follow this minor road for about 10 miles to BRADWORTHY passing POWLERS PIECE. At BRADWORTHY Square continue ahead (to BUDE) with WICKETTS GARAGE on your left.

Go down hill and follow road RIGHT to BERRIDON and WEST DOWN. Cross a small bridge and after 1 mile WEST DOWN HOUSE is on the right AFTER the driveway to West Down Farm and IMMEDIATELY AFTER a cream painted bungalow.

FROM EXETER (A30)

Exit M5 Junction 31. Take A30 to OKEHAMPTON. Pass Okehampton on dual carriageway and take A386 exit to TORRINGTON, HATHERLEIGH and HOLSWORTHY.

Pass Shell petrol station, Little Chef and Travel Lodge on left and take A3079 to HATHERLEIGH and HOLSWORTHY. At 'T' junction at Brandis Corner turn left onto A3072 to HOLSWORTHY. Follow Holsworthy town centre bypass on right, signposted BUDE. At mini-roundabout at top of slight hill go straight ahead and rejoin A3072 to STRATTON and BUDE. After 100 yards turn right (opposite Texaco petrol station) to CHILSWORTHY and BRADWORTHY.

After 8 miles reach BRADWORTHY Square. Pass Bradworthy Inn and church on right to far end of the square. Turn left to KILKHAMPTON leaving WICKETTS GARAGE on left and proceed as in paragraph 4 above.
