Chinese State Circus in North Devon

In their first European tour, the Chinese State Circus is to bring their spectacular new acrobatic show to the Landmark Theatre in Ilfracombe over two days, from Sunday 5 February to Monday 6 February.

Masters of physical theatre on a grand scale, the Chinese State Circus have built up a worldwide reputation for giving a modern twist to an ancient Chinese art form and in so doing, enthralling their audience with a breathtaking fusion of precision acrobatics, martial arts, live music and dazzling circus skills. Their show provides electric entertainment for the whole family with the newspaper The Observer describing the show as, "A show of daunting athleticism."

The show features traditional Chinese acts including the legendary Bicycle Act, which will keep you on the edge of your seat as you watch 12 artistes manoeuvre on a single bicycle. You can also witness the exhilarating twists of foot juggling with drums, the famous swinging poles, the sensational contortionist and the dynamic hoop divers with their amazing somersaults, leaps and jumps for a truly action packed programme. As well as those daring stunts, the show will also include the more delicate and beautiful side of Chinese tradition with a silk aerial act, parasol juggling and the eye catching Lion Dance. All the acts will be accompanied by an all-female group of musicians.

With evocative sets, a soaring musical score and extravagant costumes, this show will entertain the entire family long after the final act has swung, rolled or jumped out of town.
