Spirit of Leader - Local photographer wins 1st prize

31/05/2011

Local photographer, Kevin Nicholson from Braunton has won first prize in a Europe-wide photography competition, with his picture of the Applepress at Narracott.

Back in May North Devon+ in partnership with the North Devon Gazette, invited people to submit photos that represented rural life in North Devon.  Leader 4 Torridge and North Devon shortlisted a selection of images for entry into the ‘Images of Rural Europe’ competition, which was launched by the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD) to celebrate country life across Europe.

The local judging panel consisting of Ellen Vernon, John Philips, Pete Yeo and Dave Green (local photographer), put forward 9 photos across the competition categories of rural employment, rural diversity, rural environment, rural people and ‘The Spirit of Leader’.

More than 1,700 photos were received by the ENRD and these were narrowed down to just 30, including one of ours, which then went on to win 1st prize in the Spirit of Leader category at a ceremony in Brussels last week.

The photographer, Kevin Nicholson from Braunton, is delighted at the recognition – his photo will now be part of a touring exhibition and a book produced with some of the other very high quality photos that were submitted. You can see many of the other photos that were submitted from other countries here and the 30 that were selected by the ENRD judges are here

Leader 4 Torridge and North Devon would like to thank everyone who entered, the judging panel, and J&A Cameras who provided £200 worth of vouchers for the winner of the local competition.
