Road Directions

Directions to the Restaurant (EX34 8NR)

Drive nine miles north from Barnstaple towards Ilfracombe on the A361 passing through Braunton and Knowle. After “Foxhunters” Garage on the left, a quarter of a mile on you will see Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel signs. Turn left into Trimstone Lane after the signs.

From Ilfracombe and the top of North Devon, at Mullacott Cross take the Braunton turning (the A361) and we are half a mile along. Turn right into Trimstone Lane.

The Hotel is clearly signposted only 300 yards down Trimstone Lane on the left hand-side.

Public Transport Directions

We have very regular buses on one of the busiest routes in North Devon.  There is a request stop right at the top of our Lane so only 300 yards from the Restaurant!

Buses will bring you into Ilfracombe (or Woolacombe) or the other way into Braunton, Barnstaple and all the way over from Westward Ho! and beyond if you like!

The buses will also connect you with the trains at Barnstaple Station.

There are many excellent local Taxi firms as well of course and there are cycle tracks not far from us (and soon to be expanding significantly too) and some of this connects with the old Railway lines - 450 miles of North Devon's finest 'Tarka Trail' for walking or cycling.

Accessibility

Access Information

Mentioned in the Domesday Book and before, Trimstone Manor's buildings date back to the 1600s and whilst every attempt has been made to make the property and facilities suitable for guests of all ages and physical abilities,  the  following is an explanation of what guests can expect and will allow them to make their own assessment of how well their needs can be met.   Should you have any specific enquiries that are not answered here please do give us a call.

There is a 300 yard country lane from the main road before turning into the Hotel's driveway leading to the entrance of the hotel, with parking to the rear.  We welcome disabled customers to disembark at the front of the hotel and then vehicles parked in the car park. For disabled drivers, one or two cars can be parked near the front door.

The entrance has a step into a small porch like area for which the hotel has a ramp available. There is a narrow hallway down to the reception area where a wheelchair would find it difficult to negotiate though wider access through the Dining Room (from the Hall) and lounge bar is there.  The staff are happy to attend to your enquiries in the wider  front hall or the dining room if access is difficult.

From Reception there is a step which is standard height into a spacious bar area. One higher chair is available as well as tall stools but generally the chairs are low level and there are decorative coffee tables.

The dining room is positioned near to the front door.  It is a spacious room with standard height tables and chairs.  There are also French Doors for fine weather and a step onto the front drive and garden for direct access.  The staff serve your food and drinks at your table.

The hotel has three ground floor bedrooms.  One is very large and the other two are smaller doubles. The Hotel also has eight rooms on the first floor up a broken flight of stairs and all of which are spacious, including some larger prestige rooms.  There is one downstairs' bedroom in the main house and the other two are in the annex adjacent to the car park and next door to the building containing the swimming pool, sauna and gym area.  There is also another building level with the car park which houses the Games Room.

The large bedroom in the main house has a double bed with an adjoining alcove which contains a single bed on one side and bunk beds on the other side.  There is space around the double bed for a frame and it is carpeted.

The en-suite has a standard height toilet and sink with a shower over the bath and vinyl flooring.  There are no permanent grab rails or bath chair.

There are pretty views into the courtyard which has a water feature and flowers.  The ground is hard landscaped. From the courtyard there is an alleyway wide enough for a wheelchair giving separate direct access through to the car park, Games Room and the swimming pool, etc.

To enter the bedroom there are two options.  One is by two slightly high but long steps from the bar lounge to the first 'landing'.  Then there is another step before moving onto the next 'landing' which leads to the bedroom door.  The second route is directly from the courtyard through a door and up that one step onto the landing level with the bedroom door.

Bedroom two is next to the car park and as with bedroom three, once you have taken the single outside step into the large hallway for this suite of rooms, for which another ramp is available (and a grab rail) it has a double bed with limited space around it however.  There is just about enough space to move around one side of the bed with a frame but this would not suit someone who is reliant on it the whole time. The flooring is carpeted and the room is decorated in pleasant colours.

The en-suite has a standard height toilet and sink with a shower over the bath with vinyl flooring.  There isn’t a permanent bath chair available or grab rails.

The third bedroom has a little hallway that leads to the bedroom and en-suite. The bedroom has a double bed with no room for a frame or wheelchair. The room is carpeted with vinyl flooring in the en-suite.

The en-suite has a standard height corner toilet and standard height sink with a shower.  There is a small lip into the shower. Sadly there isn’t enough room for any mobility equipment in the en-suite.

There are lovely views from this bedroom with a small play area and a poultry collection!

In the adjoining building next to the car park there is a swimming pool.  The Pool itself is accessed via vertical steps or a side ladder. There is plenty of space around the pool so if you are unable to access the pool you would be able to watch with ease.

The gym is from the Pool area and contains a range of modern equipment and a TV whilst exercising.

The recreational area at the other side of the car parking area has a free pool table, table football, darts and table tennis.  There is just enough space to negotiate the tables with a frame.

There is a disabled toilet.
