Woolacombe Beach

Woolacombe Beach is one of the finest beaches in the West Country, it is easy to see why it has won numerous awards. It's a big favourite for families and surfers, attracting thousands of people each summer to this and beach and its bohemian edged resort. The rolling surf brings unbroken Atlantic breakers from across thousands of miles of ocean to pound on this three-mile long stretch of golden sand. The sheer length of the beach means it is possible to find quiet places in the surf, even at the height of summer. This is one of the reasons it is fast becoming renowned as an international surfing hotspot.

Geographically, the beach lies between the rugged, unspoilt Baggy and Morte Points. The rolling surf brings unbroken Atlantic breakers from across thousands of miles of ocean to pound on this three-mile long stretch of golden sand.

This beach is backed by sandy hills and the Woolacombe Downs with the village of Woolacombe lying at the northern end of the beach. This creates easy access and three large car parks are available, with space for 3000 cars including disabled parking. The beach is well supervised with the RNLI Lifeguard service on duty during Easter bank holiday weekend; May 5th - September 30th; October weekends and October half term. This is a beach renowned for its Watersports with speed boats and jet skis prohibited and particular zoning for water sports activities such as swimming, surfing, windsurfing, sailing and sea canoeing. Surfboards and canoes can be hired and the beach always draws in keen surfers with its regular surfing competitions. Facilities such as food, toilets and litterbins are available but dogs not allowed on certain areas May 1st to September 30th.

The surfing lifestyle has brought many thousands of people to this corner of North Devon over the years.
