Broomhill Sculpture Gardens
Voted 12th 'Best Alfresco Destination for the Arts in the UK’ in The Times newspaper 2015
“...one of the largest and loveliest permanent collections of sculpture in the southwest.” – The Times
An eclectic collection of over 300 sculptures sited on 15 acres of magnificent wild woodland valley and beautifully cultivated gardens. The sculptures are carefully placed within their natural environment to ensure the best display and appreciation. There is something for every taste; from abstract to figurative the sculptures evoke strong emotional responses and inspire future generations. The landscape itself is a work of art, with secret pathways and steps, exploring the gardens is a journey of discovery. The gardens and woodland are bursting with wildlife too!
Broomhill is situated two miles from Barnstaple; England’s oldest borough and Gold Award winner for the prettiest floral town in Europe. A stunning late Victorian hotel with a twist, there is fantastic art everywhere. Eight light and airy recently renovated bedrooms, an award-winning restaurant serving mouth watering slow food, a contemporary art gallery filled with gorgeous affordable art, not to mention the sculpture park! There is also an outdoor swimming pool for the hotel guests to use in the summer, and the site offers conference/meeting facilities and wedding packages too.
The hotel is owned and managed by Rinus and Aniet van de Sande; a genuine hard working couple. They are incredibly hands-on, ensuring that every guest is treated with the kindness and respect they deserve. They have tenaciously developed the hotel and sculpture park over the last 18 years, creating a natural and cultural oasis in the heart of North Devon.
Hotel guests are invited to explore the sculpture park for free, enjoy the contemporary art collection on sale in the gallery, and admire the Broomhill collection on display throughout the hotel.
You don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy the benefits of Broomhill though! Entry to the hotel and gallery is free, and for a small charge non-hotel guests can explore the sculpture park. Why not book a meal with your visit, or sit on the sun terrace looking over the blooming gardens with a delicious cream tea.
