Chris Biscoe - alto sax, alto clarinet Rachel Musson - tenor & soprano sax Loz Speyer - trumpet, flugelhorn Olie Brice - double bass Gary Willcox - drums Inner Space plays jazz with a rare warmth and immediacy. The compositions combine rhythmic changes with subliminal references that synthesize New Orleans, Bebop, contemporary straight-ahead and Free Jazz. Each piece of music evolves its own form, its own balance of structure and freedom, its own atmosphere. There are audible references to Mingus, Monk, Ornette et al, but mainly there’s just the immediacy of these five highly distinctive musicians working it out all in the here and now. The new album “Life on the Edge” was released on Leo Records in 2017, with international airplay and reviews and four stars in Jazzwise and on All About Jazz. Recorded on the back of the band’s last Arts Council funded tour, it really captures the live interactive quality of the music.
